Dear Brother,

Your letter of January the 14 came to hand yesterday and I was glad to hear from you.  I am well and hope these few lines will find you the same.  I received a letter from Fisher last night, he is well.  It is very muddy down in old Virginia now.  It rained all day yesterday and last night.  It is warm down here for the time of year.  Rice, have you seen Darwin lately?  I would like to ear from him.  I would like to have one sleigh ride this winter but Uncle Sam does not keep any horses for his boys to ride.  I think he will let me come home in about two years more if nothing happens.  I am glad you are going to school this winter.  I got a letter from Mother the other day.  She said that Maga was to Naples then she said that Uncle Rice had the (hole) then you did not say anything about it and they had sent a box of provisions but I have not got it yet.  We have a good deal of duty to do this winter.  We come on picket every night.  We are where we can talk to the Rebs.  Mr. Fish is dead, David’ brother.  He was taken prisoner the 17th of June and died on the 27th of July.  One of the boys that was taken prisoner the same time just came back to the Company.  Rice I cannot write a very long letter this time for I have got two more to write and all inquiring friends if any.  Please write soon.

Yours Truly,
James H. Moulton
