Friend Croswell,

Yours of the 9th was received yesterday and contents noticed.  I should of written you before but have been expecting to get paid off every day and so I waited so to send you some money,  but have not received pay yet.  And as it is so near to the time of muster for pay again, I think it doubtful if we get paid until after muster, which is the last day of this month.  And then shall receive four months instead of two.  But I cannot tell what they mean to do about it.  They may pay the last muster any day and as soon as I receive any money, you shall have it.  As to my discharge, I have applied for it and shall hear what they decide soon.  But as the news from the Army is so good, I do not think it will make much difference.  For we all shall be at home before two months,  that is all the old troops.  As to the draft, you said was to be there is an order from the War Department not to draft or recruit any more.  So you will be clear of that.

You did not mention how you arranged with Davis about the Hag.  Would like to hear from you in regards to it.

As spring is close at hand, would like you to see that Hiram does some planting and also earns something towards a living .  For he can do considerable if he has anyone to look after him and he will do as you tell him.  So hoping to be with you before long.

I remain your friend,

Walter Jordan
