Colonel Beaver

Sir,

I am still in the hospital yet.  I have been here for pretty near four months and can’t get a cent of money since I came here and haven’t been able to be in the ranks.  I would like to get in the Drum Corps.  If you can do anything for me, I would be much obliged to you.  I have done my duty like a man since I came out.  I will give you my age, 16 years old.  My brother came out the same time I did and he got wounded at the Poe River fight.  I don’t think he will ever be back again.  There are only two left that came out with me last winter.

The Regiment’s time will soon be over and will be shifted around to some other regiment.  There are not many left in our regiment.

Write soon and oblige your friend.
