Brother Charlie,

I have the honor of replying to your highly interesting epistle, in which you inform me that you are about to submit to matrimony and at any time for the nuptials. Well, I think that you are doing pretty well. A little in a hurry then, but you are going with the feelings of your own. Are you not?

This hospital is to be closed at the end of this week, and then we are to move. But it is thought we will not leave this place. For my part, I wish we would.

About the assassination of the president, it is truly a bad thing. The rebs are not much pleased with it. I have reasons to believe that the Johnson's thumb will be guarded on the rebs than would Lincoln's whole hand, and his, they fear.

The weather is very fine today, but a little windy. Burns' pictures, which I have received, are very nice.

Let me hear from you soon, but I will close.

Yours with fraternal regard,

Silas
