Dear friend,
I take this opportunity to write a few lines to let you know that I am well at present and hope these lines may find you well. We are at Camp Tennally, a few miles from Washington. We have done nothing yet but capture four men and 85 head of cattle but there are big preparations for a fight. We are keen to see it. There are good times but the game will turn soon I think.
I for my part am well satisfied with all that has past. If I had to do over again I could not better it. I feel satisfied the way things worked before I left. I was like a charm and if ever I return home we will have a good time but again. I hope we can rig a purchase that will get the oldest of them, the Punchbowl arrangement was hard to beat but there are others that is as good. I am only getting schooled in such business. I think I will be able to teach the science when I come home. I talk like as if I was going to live forever but that’s alright. Jake and I often talk and laugh about the time we had tuden out but that’s alright too. If you see punch bowl give her my best respects and tell her to write me a few lines. You give the direction. You write the particulars to me soon as you get this. I wrote you before but got no answer so be sure and write soon.
Yours respectfully Elizabeth,
Alfred C.
