My Dear Aunt,
Enclosed please find a photograph of myself. I wish I could send you the picture of a better looking man but, such as it is, I beg you to accept it as a token of my love and regard for you. I hope you are well and also Melissa. I shall come and see you as soon as the war is over. My health is very good and I hope and trust yours is the same. Please give my kind regards to Melissa. I am in command of a fine Regiment of over one thousand men but how many of us will return to our loved one is another thing. Please give my respects to all our friends.
When you write direct them to:
Colonel William Blaisdell
Commanding
11th Massachusetts Volunteers
Washington, DC
and I shall be sure to get your letter. With many kind wishes for your long life and health.
I remain yours truly,
William Blaisdell
