Dear friends,
I write to let you know how we are. We are not well. Jack has got the flu. I have chills and fever. I think is better. Our regiment is very sickly. Thirty men all that is able for duty. We are a going to leave here soon. Someday we go to St. Louis to a barracks to recruit. We will be paid today and we will send our money the most safe way. Capt Styres is going home on a furlough. We may send it with him.
I got a letter from Pope just a few minutes ago. He is well and at Bolivar Heights, Tenn. I got a letter from Emaretta. They were all well. Benton has volunteered and is orderly sergeant.
Everything is quiet. No news.
Last winter it was wait till the roads get better. Now it is wait for cool weather.
It does not [look] like we are whipping them very fast.
No more at present. Give my best respects to all inquiring friends.
