Original Civil War soldier's letter. 3 pages written in period ink. (Written by two brothers).

Washington D.C.
Fort Runyon
August 14, 1861

Dear Brothers and Sister,
I seat myself once more to write a few lines. Although I think I wrote you last, but never mind. We are all well except John, he is not very well. I think he has got the ague. There is quite a number that has got it in our regiment. It is not very healthy here. Last night was as cold a night as we have in November. I thought I should freeze before morning. It is very warm days. We shall have to stay two years I think, but the whole of the regiment are for going home. We cannot tell until next week, whether we stay or not. Charles wants to write some and it is nearly dress parade time. And I must close for this time. Give my respects to all and write soon.

Yours in haste
W. M. Fox

Dear Brother and Sister,

As Walter was over here, I told him I would write to you and find paper and pay the postage if he would commence it so he did and I find that I have not much time to write as it is most time to go on dress parade. I have written to you once since you answered it. So you must write as soon as you get this as I have nothing to write of much consequence. I will not trouble your head with much nonsense as I have not got a likeness of my own I will send you one of our generals. His name is on the back side of the picture. I have got my likeness taken but have not got it yet. But when I get it, I will send it. Well it is most time to draw to a close, so you must excuse poor writing and bad spelling for it is written in a hurry as Walter took so much poise in writing his. Give my love to all inquiring friends if there is any such (Dwight) there.

Write Soon.
