Respected Sister,
Your very welcomed note came duly at hand a day or two since, but as I have been very busy since I received it, as we have been moving our camp we have moved about two miles I have delayed writing until now. Your letter as directed went to Convalescent Camp but did not find me there. I joined the Regt about two weeks since and I am feeling the best I have in a long time. I had a pretty rough time with the rheumatism for a while this spring, which is probably the reason why you heard I was sick. I was over to the camp of the 154th Regt and saw George and Gen Randall and that was about all from your vicinity. The boys got pretty well scattered in the last fight. George was looking well and tough. Gen was over here yesterday and he said they had heard from the boys that were taken prisoner. They were at Annapolis Med.
Ell I have no news to write that you are not probably already aware of. The boys of your acquaintance in this Regt are all well. You said your boy is growing finely and I should judge he was by his looks as George showed him to me the other day.
I am trying to write with such a miserable excuse of a pen that I am all out of humor and I guess I might as well bring this to a close. You said Ruth was to work for Fry Cooper M Leon now. If you see fit to answer this disconnected scribble, I wish you would in you next give me her post office address as I would like to write her. I have not heard from her nor knew not where she was since I was there but I am admonished to bring this to a close as the bugle has sounded for dress parade and I must don the cartridge box and musket and march out. Give my best regards to the old gentleman and lady Ed and Alice and all inquiring friends. Please write soon and except this from your friend and brother.
