Dear Brother,
I take the opportunity this morning to write you a few lines although I have no particular news to write. I am well as common and hope this will find you the same. We are in camp at about 10 miles from Fredericksburg. We are entrenching and building forts as I think that we shall stay here some time. It is very warm and dry. We haven’t had any rain in four weeks so you can imagine for yourself.
I had a letter from Father the other day and he said that you talked of coming down this summer. I would like to see you if I could and will if possible. Our folks are all well. Well what do you think about the war. Do you think that the war will close up this summer? I would like to have it for my part I have seen all that I want.
No more at present. Write as soon as you get this.
Goodbye,
Erastus Jones
