Sister Mary,

I received your kind letter this evening and found enclosed some stamps also the receipt for the box that you had started. I hardly think the box has got here yet but I will go down to the express office in the morning and see. Mr. Smith’s company box will be sometime a coming will it not? We had our donation the other night.

Mr. Rebs got up on their dignity and fed our pickets on Black Island rather more shells then was really necessary. We was all called up in the line ready to receive them if they thought it best to make us a visit. Heavy firing had just commenced up on Morris Island. Wagner and Greg are both throwing shells to no small rate for some reason or other. I presume that we shall have to dig out before morning. Our gun boats are engaged to it seems.

I sent Thomas a letter yesterday telling him that I had not heard from home in sometime. It seems that the mail did not all come yesterday. I would like to have you send me two pair of overalls by Brown or Benjamin when they come back if it will not be too much trouble to them. Brown asked me if there was anything that I would like to have him bring when he started for home but I did not think that I wanted anything then. I think that number two will be large enough. Let me know how much they cost and I will send you the money.

I have not received a letter from Eben yet. I do not know what is the trouble. I have wrote to him three or four times and have not yet got an answer. I want to go upon the lookout and see the bombarding so good night.
